I'm back! It's been two weeks with not a character in sight, but we're back and these two weeks were a relatively light load: we had to thoroughly research a culture of our choice and design a character based out of that research. I chose Russian, but I brought in tones of Romanian and Albanian as well. There were some REALLY neat entries this week! Anyways, I really looked into their folklore and was really inspired by the visual gestalt of the character of Baba Yaga, so I set out to do a kind of riff on that character. There's a lot more stuff in there, but mostly she's a traveling Veggie-lady with magical powers and, yes, tomato-bells Enjoy!
wohoo! very funky. The first thought that came into my head when I saw this , was "Baba Yaga". Glad to see I wasn't very far off. I love the pumpkin-beast she's riding and all the details on her. cool!
My three favourite things about this picture: the feet on the bottom of her (boat? balloon?) vehicle, the curly tail of her pumpkin floatation device, and her big wooden spoon-paddle. Awesome, simply awesome.
